2018 Summer Reading Program

Libraries Rock at the

West Point Public Library



All ages are welcome to participate in our Libraries Rock Summer Reading Program!  Registration begins May 29th…register to be eligible to receive prizes for reading!  Once you sign up, you will receive a reading record and a sheet of stickers.  The first 25 people to sign up will also receive a library bag and kazoo!  For each five minutes, you read or are read to, place a sticker on one spot on your reading record.  Once your reading record is full, bring it to the library for a prize and a ticket to enter into a drawing to receive one of three grand prizes. Different prizes for different age groups (2-6, 7-10, 11+)!  Fill at least one reading record and receive a ticket to a Bees game!


Preschool Storytime (ages 2-5) every Monday from 10:00am - 10:45am, two of which will be at the West Point Care Center.

Programs (all ages) or School Age Storytime (ages 6-12) will be held on Wednesday or Thursday afternoons, exact times will vary. Featured programs include Blank Park Zoo, Robot Dance Party, Absolute Science, ISU Extension Office, and Lee County Conservation.

4-H/Summer Day Camps on selected Tuesdays – Register with ISU Ext. Office or at the library

Adult drawings and Community read of Steve Lopez’s The Soloist with a Community Wide Book Discussion/Movie.

Musical Movies

Children’s musical movies will be shown on Fridays at 1:00 pm.


Rock Races

Who rocks more…adults, teens, or kids??  For each book you read you will be given a rock to place in a container…it’s a race to see whose fills up the fastest!

June 27 (1:00) – School Age Story Time – Exploring Instruments (Ages 6-12)

July 5 (1:00) – School Age Story Time – Rain Sticks (Ages 6-12)

July 11 (1:00) – Absolute Science (All Ages)

July 18 (1:00) – Lee County Conservation – Sounds of Nature (All Ages)

July 25 (1:00) – School Age Story Time – Painting Rocks (Ages 6-12)


Adult Program

  • For each book you read, fill out an entry to be placed into a drawing for a chance to win one of our three Libraries Rock grand prizes!


  • Join in Community read of The Soloist by Steve Lopez. (Books available starting June 4th). Discussion/Movie July 19 at 6:00 pm.
